New Zealand – Too Much Video Gaming Can Cause Deadly Blood Clots

December 11, 2013; Posted by: webleed staff

Young man in New Zealand develops blood clots after days of gaming on his PlayStation.

Blood clots.  If not detected and handled early, they can become your worst nightmare.

Enter a young man from New Zealand.  Recently, he developed a DVT in his legs because he was not moving around for days and instead playing video games according to a report from LiveScience. At the time, the 31-year-old was on vacation, spending eight hours each day sitting on his bed with his legs outstretched playing PlayStation games. Over the course of the next few days he developed bad pain and swelling and decided to ignore it.

The young man was lucky when he finally decided to go to the hospital.  DVTs can be extremely morbid if ignored. One 21 year old was not quite as lucky in 2011 when he ignored the symptoms and instead continued to play on his Xbox for 12 hours a day. He passed away from thrombosis after doing this for days.

If you experience these symptoms, look up a health center near you in our webleed directory here.
