
PHARMA/BIO-TECH UPDATE: Anemia Treatment a $4 Billion/year Industry

Recently IMS Health released its list of the top grossing drugs from October 2012 – September 2013. A handful of drugs familiar to the bleeding disorders community, specifically those with anemia, made the list.
#21.) Epogen, produced by AMGEN – sales of $2,214,743,254
#43.) Procrit, manufactured by AMGEN, but sold by Johnson & Johnson – $1,047,927,348
#59.) Aranesp, also produced by AMGEN – #845,994,421
Cholesterol-lowering Crestor, by Astra Zeneca, was the nation’s most prescribed drug over the course of the last 12 months and Abilify, manufactured by Otsuka Pharmaceutical was the nation’s top seller with nearly $6.4 billion in sales. See the complete list here.
