Q&A with NFL player and hemophilia advocate

January 10, 2014; Posted by: WeBleed staff

Indianapolis Colt’s defensive back Josh Gordy talks about his experiences with hemophilia.

Recently a football player that plays in the National Football League (NFL) gave a brief interview in which he spoke mostly on the blood disorder hemophilia.  Indianapolis Colts cornerback Josh Gordy spoke about the trials and tribulations as well as some neat facts about his nephew who has hemophilia.

“I have a nephew, Nolan Andrews, who is a severe Type A hemophiliac with inhibitors,” Gordy told The Star Press, “That means that his type can sometimes block the medicines that he’s taken. Someone with just a severe form of hemophilia can take the medicine, and it’ll pretty much help your blood clot. But the inhibitors stop the medicine, and then you have to double up on the meds. So, at that point, the cost really goes up.”

It is always nice to see people advocate for hemophilia and use their forum, in this case sports, to speak about what hemophilia is and raising general awareness about it.  Thank you Josh!
