Canada – Young Girl with vwd released from hospital after 2 years

January 20, 2014; Posted by: WeBleed staff

Young girl with three serious medical conditions, including von Willebrand disease, finally gets her release from hospital after 2 years.

Inspiring story out of Ontario, Canada today.  Sixteen year old Sarah Byars was recently released from the hospital after suffering major infections to both her intestines and abdomen two years ago.  Sarah suffers from three serious medical conditions on top of that – osteogenesis imperfecta, Crohn’s disease and the blood disorder von Willebrand disease.

Sarah’s doctor, Dr. Brian Cameron, pediatric surgeon at McMaster Children’s Hospital, told the Brampton Guardian, “Generally, anyone who’s as sick as Sarah, if they don’t go home within a short period, then they don’t go home.”

We wish Sarah best of luck with her and as she continues to recover.
