Boy With Hemophilia Gets Chance to Quiz Athlete

December 26, 2013; Posted by: WeBleed staff

William Wright, from Halifax, attended swimming academy in London for boys with rare bleeding disorders.

Real cool article coming out of the Yorkshire Post today. A young man diagnosed with the bleeding disorder hemophilia had the opportunity to attend a swimming session and academy to learn more about the sport.  The Buddy Award Swimming Academy is hosted by Paralympian swimmer Jack Bridge every year. This year over 20 boys were able to enjoy a specially tailored day which included swimming coaching, advice from physiotherapists and a question and answer session with the London 2012 athlete and holder of six British swimming records.

Jack also has severe hemophilia A, also known as factor VIII deficiency.

“The Buddy Award Swimming Academy was so much more than just a fun day out. For many of the boys there it was the first time they had met someone around their age with the same or similar condition, never mind someone with severe hemophilia who competed at London 2012 said Dr Dan Hart, consultant hematologist at the Royal London Hospital.

Not only a fun event, but also a great way to raise awareness for hemophilia.
