Women co-host 2nd annual “Pump It Up for Platelets” 5K for ITP awareness.
No matter if you were running or walking this past week in Livingston, New Jersey, you were raising awareness for Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). Meredith Prescott and Linda McGuirl co-hosted the 2nd annual “Pump It Up for Platelets!” 5K walk in Livingston, gathering almost 300 people and raising close to $30,000 to benefit the Platelet Disorder Support Association (PDSA). Both ladies were diagnosed with ITP and have come to know the struggles and hardships when dealing with their platelet counts and medications. The disease affects close to 10 times as many people as the blood disorder hemophilia, and yet many of the public do not know too much about it. Both Prescott and McGuirl really wanted others to become aware of the condition while also raising money for a good cause and also show their determination in really getting the word out about ITP is.
“A little bit goes along way and that was very evident in today’s turn out,” Prescott said via TapintoLivingston. “Today also reminds us how essential it is to give back to those in need and I hope the supporters really saw that at the event…I just really want to thank all the sponsors and people who came to show their support. I really am so thankful to have such a supportive town and for people’s generosity and kindness. I truly think we are making strides to make a difference and hoping next year will be even more successful.”
