TAKE A TRIP – MANHATTAN BEACH
January 22, 2014; Posted by: WeBleed staff
Don’t let your bleeding or clotting disorder keep you from experiencing the joys of travel. While precautions and preparations need to be taken for anyone with a chronic health problem – you can still get out there and see all the world has offer. Our “Take a Trip” Series aims to highlight places near and far that you may want to visit. We’ll provide you with local information, ideas for joint-friendly things to do, and access to resources so you can enjoy your time away from home.
Manhattan Beach, California, USA – As you may have read, the Platelet Disorders Support Association has announced the dates and location for their annual ITP Conference this upcoming July 11-14. Of course this provided the travel committee (i.e. Steven) here at WeBleed the perfect opportunity to do some research on Manhattan Beach, CA.
So, without further ado, the first “Take a Trip” of 2014…
TOP 5 TRIP TO DOS
#1.) You are visiting a place called Manhattan Beach. If you don’t make it oceanfront to the Manhattan Beach Pier you’ll regret it for the rest of your life. You’ll recognize this iconic landmark from such films as Tequila Sunrise, Point Break, and Starsky & Hutch. Arrive just before dusk for a breathtaking sunset. Click here for directions to the pier.
#2.) Looking for something easy on the joints but more active than just lounging on the beach? Get over to Guru’s Gate Yoga studio and combine the best of both worlds with their “Beach Body Yoga Flow” class. You’ll need to bring a beach towel or yoga mat down to the beach with you. Fresh air, the gentle sounds of the ocean, and a sun salutation or two will have you relaxed in no time. Namaste.
#3.) Shop local in downtown Manhattan Beach. You’ll find a flourishing shopping district of trendy boutiques, spas, and one-of-a-kind shoppes like Manhattan Denim, Bella Beach Kids, and Elleni Couture (where you can get designer shoes AND designer chocolates – whoa).
#4.) Manhattan Beach is home to a ton of current/former celebrities and professional athletes from tennis star Maria Sharapova to Olympic power couple Mia Hamm & Nomar Garciapara to Wheel of Fortune’s Pat Sajack and comedian Dave Coulier. Where do the stars go for a bite to eat? The North End Caffe…that’s where. This eclectic caffe (that’s right two “F’s”) has been featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and boasts some dishes that are as interesting as the wall art. Worth a stop.
#5.) If you find yourself in Manhattan Beach in August make sure you score some tickets to the Manhattan Beach Volleyball Open. For over 50 years “The Open” has been bringing the world’s best beach volleyball players to the South Bay including the Olympic women’s pair of Misty May-Treanor and Keri Walsh.
