Wish comes true for vWD patient

February 7th, 2014; Posted by: WeBleed staff

A 12 year old boy who suffers from a severe case of von Willebrand Disease (vWD) had his wish come true when he was able to meet actor Will Smith thanks to the Make-A-Wish foundatiton in the United Arab Emirates.

Adam Salim’s condition means that if he sustains even a minor scrape he could have a sever bleeding episode, because his blood is unable to clot.  This can lead to some major health complications.

“I said I wanted to meet Will Smith,” said Adam. “He makes me laugh so much and I find him really interesting. His movies are so dramatic and some are comedy. My favorite is The Pursuit of Happyness. That film made me cry. It is so good,” he told The National.

Adam asked Smith about what encouraged him to get into acting and who his influences were.

“He told me he started acting in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and said the person he looked up to was Eddie Murphy because he was so funny.

“He was so friendly, and it was such fun. My friends couldn’t believe it. When I showed them the photos they said it was photoshopped.”
