BloodCenter of Wisconsin and Great Lakes Hemophilia Foundation join forces to offer summer camp.
Two hemophilia/bleeding disorders organizations, BloodCenter of Wisconsin and Great Lakes Hemophilia Foundation (GLHF), are partnering up in the Wisconsin area to offer a summer camp for children. Children between the ages of 7 and 14 years old who are living with a bleeding disorder, are invited to attend Camp Klotty Pine at the Camp Lakotah facility in Wautoma from Sunday, July 27 to Friday, August 1. Applications can be completed and accepted until June 10 by contacting GLHF at (414) 937-6784.
“We deeply appreciate the expertise and passion of the Great Lakes Hemophilia Foundation staff and volunteers to provide an experience that empowers children to be active participants in their own care,” Dr. Tom Abshire, chief medical officer, BloodCenter of Wisconsin, told the LaCrosse Tribune. “We believe the camp experience is an extension of care for children so they can gain a sense of independence and socialize with other children who have hemophilia and other bleeding disorders.”
Medical staff will be available during camp to ease concerns of parents and family members. They will also help train children to self-infuse, which can have a life-changing impact for those with hemophilia.
Looks to be a summer of fun with camps slated to begin soon.
