West Virginia – Bowling for Neutropenia

Young girl hopes bowling event will raise money and awareness for those who suffer from the rare blood disorder neutropenia.
A West Virginia resident is taking things into her own hands when it comes to raising money for a disease that hits close to home. Ten-year-old Kara Loader suffers from a rare blood disorder called neutropenia where the body’s neutrophils that help fight infection are destroyed. She hopes to spread awareness and education about neutropenia by bringing people together for a fun activity: bowling.
Kara and her mother, Tammy, decided on a bowling event because they say “pretty much anyone can bowl” and almost every community has a bowling alley.
Teams of 5 to 7 people can sign up before hand and raise funds for the event. Prizes will be given away for the best team name, and for whoever raises the most money. “Bowling for Neutrophils” will be held Saturday night, March 15, at 5:30 p.m. at St. Clair Lanes in St. Clairsville, West Virginia.
