Take a Trip – TUSCALOOSA

Don’t let your bleeding or clotting disorder keep you from experiencing the joys of travel. While precautions and preparations need to be taken for anyone with a chronic health problem – you can still get out there and see all the world has offer. Our “Take a Trip” Series aims to highlight places near and far that you may want to visit. We’ll provide you with local information, ideas for joint-friendly things to do, and access to resources so you can enjoy your time away from home.

Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA – Whether you are planning a weekend trip or a family vacation you can’t go wrong with a visit to Tuscaloosa.    It doesn’t matter if you’re a foodie, a sports aficionado, or a history buff the down home southern charm of this Alabama city has something for everyone and will not disappoint.

TOP 5 TRIP TO DOS:
1.  First things first – if you are visiting Tuscaloosa during football season, you’d better be sure of two things, 1.) you’ve got your tickets to the big game at Bryant-Denny Stadium and 2.) you forgot to pack anything that might be misconstrued as Auburn orange. The Crimson Tide’s recent football success (NCAA Champions in 2009, 2011, and 2012) makes Saturdays in Tuscaloosa “GAMETIME”. You’ll be sure to enjoy yourself from tailgate parties, to the game, to a trip to Rama Jama’s “in the shadow” of the stadium for a bite after a win. ROLL TIDE! www.rolltide.com

2.)  Voted the #2 Best BBQ Cities by livibility.com, Tuscaloosa boasts some great places to get your rib on. Try Dreamland BBQ or Moe’s Original BBQ – you won’t be dissapointed. www.dreamlandbbq.com; www.moesoriginalbbq.com

3.)  Take a tour of the historic homes & buildings in Tuscaloosa on and around the University of Alabama campus. Visit www.historictuscaloosa.org for more information.

4.)  Learning can be fun – take the kids to the Children’s Hands-on Museum of Tuscaloosa and explore a Choctaw Indian village, see what life is like on a river towboat, climb up on a tractor and till some fields, or visit the DCH Health System exhibit to learn about being a doctor or nurse. So much to see, do, and learn www.chomonline.org.

5.)  Tuscaloosa is the production location for the Mercedes-Benz M, R, and GL-class automobiles. You can take a guided tour of the factory and/or visit the museum and gift shop to learn about the history of Mercedes-Benz in the USA and in Alabama. (For security purposes, MBUSI must receive a list of tour participants atleast 10 days prior a factory tour. This does not apply to museum and gift shop visitors)
