The fears of one family in Pennsylvania about the new specialty tier drug program not being affordable for them.
Chronic disease patients need specialty drugs on a day to day basis. With new legislation and the enactment of the Affordable Care Act, people within the bleeding disorder community have become fearful the cost of their drugs may not be fully covered and their expense will skyrocket.
“But with this proposed new tier, I think the fear is that, if there isn’t an out-of-pocket max, those could go through the roof,” says Nick Vizzoca, whose 13-year-old son has hemophilia. “And I think that’s what’s really scaring us.”
Currently many states like Pennsylvania are taking action to alleviate the worry of their members. For the bleeding disorders community, this continues to be an ongoing issue and a constant fight.
