North Carolina – Friends Raise Money for Young Man With Rare Blood Disorder
January 9, 2014; Posted by: WeBleed staff
Non-profit and friends of Nicholas Thornton help family by raising money for treatment for aplastic anemia.
Excellent story out of North Carolina today. The Winston-Salem Journal reported that a local family was the beneficiary of funds raised by local non-profit group and friends of the family.
Kisses4Kate, a non-profit based in Jamestown, has collected about $14,000 toward a goal of $20,000 for a van for transportation for Nicholas Thornton and his family for his treatment for a rare blood disorder known as aplastic anemia. Aplastic anemia occurs when the body cannot produce enough new blood cells and causes uncontrollable bleeding.
Along with the non-profit funds, friends of the Thornton family from Nicholas’s school began making bracelets to sell to raise funds as well. To the date, they have raised over $1,500.
Always nice to hear people reaching out to help others in the bleeding community. We wish Nicholas the best of luck with his ongoing treatments!
