National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) announces open registration for their inhibitor education summits.
Every year the National Hemophilia Foundation organizes 4 day event sessions for families/friends who have a loved one with hemophilia. Aside from hemophilia, they may also suffer from an inhibitor. For those unfamiliar with bleeding disorders, hemophilia is caused when a protein called a factor found in a person’s body is damaged and the person’s blood is unable to clot. The person does not bleed faster, just longer. The medication a person with hemophilia can take to stop the bleeding is called factor therapy replacement.
The 4 day events focus on the inhibitor a person can develop. These antibodies complicate matters by destroying the factor replacement therapy before a person is able to get the medication they need to stop the bleeding. NHF created these summits as a means to help families cope with the day to day challenges that come with having hemophilia and the added complication of an inhibitor.
The following dates and locations are currently available for registration:
May 30 – June 1 in Phoenix, Arizona (In Spanish)
July 10-13 in Albuquerque, New Mexico
July 24-27 in Baltimore, Maryland
