Canadian Burlesque Troupe Bares All to Help ITP Patient

January 13th, 2014; Posted by: WeBleed staff

10 year old Belezean, Jevan Freeman, is battling Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP), a rare bleeding disorder where the blood does not clot due to a low number of platelets.  Treatment can require expensive medication or, like in Jevan’s case, surgery.

Luckily for Jevan, his cousin, Niña Colada, is a member of the Nanaimo Diva Dolls, a burlesque troupe that has decided to help raise money so that he can fly to California for surgery.

“The treatment he needs is extremely expensive and this is something the family cannot manage,” Colada told the Nanaimo Daily News. “So many people in Belize have already been donating both money and blood, but we really need to raise more money to help him. He’s such a bright kid. Even despite his sickness he still got among the highest grades in his class.”

So, on January 18th, at the Foundry Pub in downtown Nanaimo, the Diva Dolls will give a two-hour burlesque performance.  The fundraiser also will include a burgers and beer, a silent auction, and 50/50 raffle all to benefit Jevan.

The event is a no-brainer for Diva Doll founder, Brandi Blaze, “Whether it’s a fundraiser or a regular show, we just love what we do with the burlesque and to be able to help a cause like this just makes it even better.”

Burger and Beer will begin at 6p, burlesque show at 7:30p.  Tickets are available ahead of time at the Diva Doll Boutique or by calling 250-713-1120.
