Dr. Michael Saag, a professor in The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine, helped create online site for guidelines on how to treat hepatitis C.
Good news for those who suffer from the chronic blood-borne infection Hepatitis C and the providers who take care of them. A new resource for treatment guidelines and recommendations for providers taking care of those who have Hep C – www.hcvguidelines.org – is now available to the masses.
“These guidelines synthesize all of the available information into very practical recommendations of what drugs are best to use for the different types of HCV presentations,” Dr. Michael Saag, a professor at UAB School of Medicine, recently said.
With 2014 seeing many new drugs to hit the shelves for Hepatitis C patients, these guidelines came at the right time. “Many of the new drugs have fewer side effects and less treatment time than interferon, the go-to drug so far to treat the virus,” Saag said.
