Don’t let your bleeding or clotting disorder keep you from experiencing the joys of travel. While precautions and preparations need to be taken for anyone with a chronic health problem – you can still get out there and see all the world has offer. Our “Take a Trip” Series aims to highlight places near and far that you may want to visit. We’ll provide you with local information, ideas for joint-friendly things to do, and access to resources so you can enjoy your time away from home.
Indianapolis, Indiana, USA – Its known as The Circle City, Naptown, The Crossroads of America, the Racing Capital of the World, or just simply as “Indy”…it is also a heckuva place to visit.
Indy’s downtown area boasts more than 200 retail shops, more than 35 hotels, almost 300 places to eat, movie theaters, sports venues, museums, art galleries, parks, and the list goes on and on.
You’ll find big city amenities and be greeted with Midwest charm when you “take a trip” to Indianapolis.
TOP 5 TRIP TO DOS
1.) There is no better place for a race fan than the Indianapolis Motor Speedway – home of the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400. Built for $3 million dollars, it has been a mecca for race fans for over a century. If you don’t find your self in the Racing Capital of the World at the end of May (Indy 500) or July (Brickyard) you can still visit Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum.
2.) Visit the world’s largest children’s museum. The Indianapolis Children’s Museum was founded in 1925 and is the fourth oldest such institution in the world. The museum hosts thousands of activities annually, including plays, workshops for school kids, traveling exhibits, and fundraisers. The over 1 million annual visitors per year can’t be wrong. Check out www.childrensmuseum.org for more info.
3.) Get your pack together and Howl at the Moon! Enjoy an evening of hand-selected craft and micro brews at one of the hottest night spots in the city. Part Bar…part Concert…you won’t be disappointed at this dueling piano joint.
4.) Walk amongst the greats of the NCAA at the NCAA Hall of Champions. With NCAA headquarters in Indy, it just makes sense that the Hall is located here as well. Dedicated to helping others develop an appreciation for the “trials and triumphs of the student-athlete” the Hall of Champions celebrates the tradition, pride and academic achievements of its over 1,000 member institutions. Take a group tour.
5.) Got some extra cash burning a whole in your pocket? Head on over to the Wholesale District where you will certainly have that burden lifted. Great shopping, fantastic places to eat, and the chance to visit the oldest Railway Union Station in the country make this a must-stop on your travel itinerary.
