Medical tech start-up creates new device called iTClamp to temporarily stop severe bleeding.
A new device to stop severe bleeding is officially out on the market and it goes by iTClamp.
“The device grabs onto the ends of the wound, pulls the edges of the wounds into the device,” Dennis Filips, trauma surgeon and co-founder of iTraumaCare, told Xconomy Texas. “There’s a pressure bar system so when you squeeze it together, like a Ziploc bag, it closes, giving a seal.”
Severe bleeding is a major cause of bleeding in patients and if not stopped, is known to kill in seconds. This device will do just that – stop a bad bleed in a matter of those precious seconds. “Suturing as a skill is restricted to doctors, and it takes them several minutes,” Filips says. “We knew our device had to be simple to use.”
It will be interesting to see what other uses and specialties the iTClamp device will be applied in.
